Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before your first render — how the farm works, how billing is calculated, how your files are handled and how to get help.

Getting started

What is a render farm and how does Sky Render Farm work?

A render farm is a large cluster of high-performance computers that render your 3D scenes far faster than a single workstation ever could. Instead of tying up your own machine for hours or days, the work is spread across many nodes that render at the same time.

With Sky Render Farm the flow is simple: you upload your project, we distribute it across our GPU or CPU nodes, and you download the finished frames. Upload, render, download — that's it.

How do I get started?

Create a free account, then upload your project using our desktop app or the web uploader. Pick your render settings, start the job, and download the results when it's done.

Not sure where to begin? Our Quick Start Guide walks you through your first render step by step.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. New accounts receive free trial credits so you can run a real render and check the quality, speed and compatibility of your scene before you add any funds.

Which 3D apps and render engines do you support?

We support Blender, Autodesk 3ds Max, Autodesk Maya and Maxon Cinema 4D, along with the major render engines — Redshift, V-Ray, Arnold, Corona, Cycles and EEVEE.

The Supported Apps page lists every supported version and engine. Don't see yours? Get in touch — we add software regularly.

Pricing & billing

How does pricing work?

Pricing is usage based, so you only pay for the compute your render actually uses. CPU rendering is billed at $0.008 per GHz-hour and GPU rendering at $0.004 per OctaneBench-hour.

You can estimate a job in advance with our render cost calculator, and reduce the rate further with SkyPoint packages.

What is a GHz-hour and an OctaneBench-hour?

They're units of compute time. A GHz-hour represents one gigahertz of CPU power running for one hour, and an OctaneBench-hour represents one OctaneBench point of GPU power running for one hour.

Because you're billed on the work consumed rather than wall-clock time, a faster render that finishes in fewer node-hours simply costs you less.

What are SkyPoints and how do discounts work?

SkyPoints are prepaid render credit. The more you buy at once, the larger the bonus: discounts start at 5% on a 250-point pack and scale up to 40% on a 50,000-point pack. Your points are then spent against CPU and GPU render jobs.

See the full breakdown on the pricing page.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept major credit and debit cards (Visa and Mastercard), PayPal and bank transfers.

Will I be charged if a render fails?

If something goes wrong on our side, reach out to support and we'll make it right. The fastest way to avoid surprises is to render a single test frame first to confirm your settings before launching a full sequence.

Uploading & rendering

How do I upload my project?

You can upload through our desktop app, which packs your scene with its assets automatically, or via the web uploader in your dashboard. Either way, the farm collects your textures and dependencies so nothing is missing at render time.

Can I render single frames and full animations?

Absolutely. Render a single still, a short clip or a feature-length animation — frames are distributed across many nodes and rendered in parallel, so large sequences come back dramatically faster than on a single machine.

What if I need a plugin or version you don't list?

Tell us what you need through live chat or the contact page. If the software is free we'll usually have it installed within a few hours, and we update existing apps and plugins as new versions ship — we may already have your version even if the site hasn't caught up.

Security, files & refunds

Are my files safe and confidential?

Yes. Your projects are private to your account, transferred over secure connections and never shared with anyone. If your studio or client requires a formal non-disclosure agreement, contact us and we'll arrange one.

How long are my files kept?

Your project files and rendered output stay available in your account so you can download them after a job completes. We recommend downloading your finished frames promptly and keeping your own backup. For exact retention details, see our Data Protection Declaration or ask support.

Can I get a refund?

Unused balance may be eligible for a refund under our Right of Revocation and Terms & Conditions. If a render didn't come out as expected because of an issue on our end, contact support and we'll put it right.

How do I contact support?

The quickest route is live chat on the site. You can also email support@skyrenderfarm.com or use the contact page — we're happy to help with setup, pricing or troubleshooting.
